MORVEN HILLS REGRASSING RESERVE.
TO THE EDITOK. Sir,—Referring to the letter published in the "Witness" signed " Farmer in the District " I wish to endorse his statements. We were .assured by the Ofcago Land Board early in the spring that the above reserve would not be let privately but would be submitted to auction. Now if the Board admits that they have let the reserve privately to Mr Lethhridge, why ever did they promise the settlers that if it was to be let so that it could be competed for publicly ? Mr Lethbridge has a good run, with plenty of both summer and winter country in it, and Has also a 1500 acre freehold farm and a 12 head water-right and race adjoining the run. I assure you. Sir, this is looked on as a glaring case of favouritism and it is high time that the settlers delegates committee, took the matter up. There is a general feeling in the district that this committee should hava all local matters submitted to them for recommendation before the Board dealt with them, and that no business of this description be transacted without being made public in the ordinary Land Board report. Great exception is being taken generally throughout the district to many of the actions of the present Land Board, in not acting more in accordance with the practical needs of the settlers and of showing apparent favouritism. I have mentioned this matter to some of the settlers delegates and have also communicated with the chairman, and the matter is. now under investigation. lam etc, Another Farmbu.
