London, February 17. Four men, who were found guilty of the murder of a foreigner, were hanged together in Chicago. They gave way to an hysterical outburst on the previous night and fought with the warders. They had to be carried to the -• scaffold in a semi-conscious condition; In New York three men sprang into a taxi-cab conveying money from a bank. Two of them belaboured the messengers on the head until unconscious, while the third covered the obaffeur .with a revolver and secured £3OOO. They then escaped. At Boulogne, a gang of thieves threw a bomb into a jewellers shop, scattering the stock into the roadway where they secured a quantity of jewellery and escaped, after firing at \ the police. A vast majority of the coal miners have handed in notice to cease work on the 29th unless a settlement is come to.' One million miners will be in* volved. ; As ; a shortage of coal is anticipated, the ironmasters at Cleve laud and South. Durham have given the men a fortnights notice. The King's visit to Germany in the spring is regarded' as certain to advance the Anglo German good feeling and the Kaiser's return visit to Great Britain is expected to crown the diplomatic work. Graham Gilmour was killed by his flying machine collapsing. He fell 300 feet. Yuan Shih Kai has cut off his pigtail. Most of the natives of Timur have revolted against Portuguese rule, and murdered many residents. The Government house was looted. Four men were killed and eleven injured by a collision between the Pennsylvania express and a wrecked train. All aboard the wrecked train * were killed, two being burned to death.
