HOUSEHOLD HINTS.

COLLER MARK AROUND THE NECK. Peroxide of hydragen will remove a collar mark on the neck, and does not encourage hair to grow, as some of our readers seem to think. Combined with an equal part of ammonia it will greatly discourage superfluous hair. The dark circles can also be removed with the juice of a lemon or with pure alcohol applied with a soft cloth. THE BEST TABLE CLOTH. Buy two yards of linen sheeting. Hemstitch it all around, making a hem about an inch wide. Make a row of open work, and in the centre embroider a design in white wash silk. The linen sheeting is cheaper than silk, and will outwear table linen many times.

The quaint old Welsh way in which Swansea woman carry their babies attracts every one's notice when visiting that town for the first time. A big shawl over th« right shoulder is drawn down to the left hip, where the two ends of the shawl are met and held together, forming a sort of pouch or pocket, in which the baby snuggles cosily a nd safely. Its weight is so supported by the hip and distributed by the shawl over the whole upper part of the body that there is no strain at all nor any tiring of the arms. This probably accounts for the upright carriage of the Welsh mother. Moreover, the method is comfortable for the child, and so safe that in Swansea small boys swathed in their mother's shawls are seen carrying the family's latest baby.
