Cycling Notes.

The date of the South Australian Test Race to select the South Australian representative for the big .Dunlop Road Race from Warrnambool to Melbourne has been fixed for Saturday, September 17th. The event is being held under the auspices of the Norwood Cycling Club over a course from Gladstone to Adelaide, a dis tanco of 125 miles. Prizes to the value of £BO have been donated for the event, which promises to be the most important event held in South Australia. A fine prize list, totalling £IBO, has been arranged for the New Zealand Timaru-Christchurch Road Race, which is to be held on Saturday, Septemper 3rd, thus allowing ample time for the Now Zealand representative to arrive in Australia to compete in both the “ Goulburn ” and “ Warrnambool” events. According to reports from New Zealand, a strong contingent is coming across this year for the.Dunlop races, with a view of repeating the performances of ,1. Arnst, A. Ralston and other New Zealand road cracks who have ridden with conspicuous success in these events, it will surprise many motorists to learn that the demand for petrol has been so enormous in the United States (the home of the Standard Oil Co. and its vast oil supplies) that it has been found necessary to import sixty million gallons into that country If America has to call upon the Bal. kan supplies (Russia) for home consumption the next serious proposition that will probably face motorists will be an “ oil boom.”
