Longest Wool On Record.

At the Mudgeeshow four months ago tho length of staple carried by one of Mr G. A. Higgins L'-ncoln rams aroused great interest, it being fully 20iu long in places. This ram has 12 months previously machine-cut 421b of wool. The last issue of the • American Sheep breodcr,' however goes much better than this, and records •' tho longest wool ever taken from a sheep." This was 82ln in length, and was cut from a Lincoln ewe. The broker who submitted the sample to that journal wrote : " This sample is from a Lincoln ewe fleece received by me from Ogden, Utah, for which tho Butterfield Company received my prize Of coutse the entire fleece did not measure the length of the sample, but part of it measured fully 82in, and in the many years that I have been handling long mo hair and wool this is the the first time that I havo ever came across anything near that length. I have often received foreign importations of long mohair and wool, but the longest I ever had was 28in. and this particular fleece certainly breaks the record. Wool of Ibis length and quality is worth anywhere from £1 to £2 per lb, and if this was mohair I would gladly pay for it as much as £4 per lb. It is a very inviting oiler for any mohair producers to consider this fact seriously, and let us hope that in the near future the producers of mohair and wool will come to realise how much valuable time and consequently large profits they are losing by neglecting the production o' the long stable and wasting their time ou short staple.
