New Zealand Meat for Russia.

The cold storage movement in Russia will probably be stimulated by the introduction into St. Petersburg of New Zealand mutton by one of the cold storage companies of that city, according to the Scotsman. This may seem a surprising development in a country so rich in cattle and sheep as Russia, but the transport difficulties are great in a country of such vast distances, and what is lacking at present is a system of refrigerating cars to bring the meat from dis taut parts of the country to the Russian market centres. The growth of cold stores in the big towns by means of British capital is making the Russians jealous and interested persons are endeavouring to secure that in future the extension of the storage system should be more in the hands of Russian capitalists.
