MEERSCHAUM SCARCE.
According to reports from Ger many the manufacturers of mccrsch aura pipes and cigar-holders are pas sing through a serious crisis on ac count of their being unable to s**. cure a sufficient amount of raw ma terial. and for the tripling quantify they do obtain they are forced t< pay a greatly increased price, the ad vance being about 100 per cent ir the last three j'ears. Practically all known deposits oi meerschaum have been exhausted, ii being found now only, in the mines of Suld-Schehir, in Asia Minor, am there the output is very small anc decreasing. Agents of English and Americar houses have secured control of this entire output, and German manufacturers are contemplating going out ol business or In some other line.
