Fishing Notes

[Nimrod.] The fishing season opened on Monday 7 last under very unfavorable conditions, the river being so dirty as to make fly fishing almost impossible. The veteran, Mr J. Jameson, was out on opening day and landed four with the Creeper. He has since caught a few more, but nothing up to his usual. Mr C. Foreman opened his account with three small ones, taken with the fly at daylight on Monday; the river at that time was fairly clear. On Wednesday afternoon Mr Jas. Yarcoe secured seven with worm and fly on the stretch about the Lower Flat. There is a great difference of opinion as to the cause of the river being so dirty. Some maintain it is the snow coining away, but the general opinion is that the sluicing at Criffei is solely to blame, as the liver is as thick at Luggate as it is here. I think the latter is the cause. At anyrate it will spoil fishing to a certain extent, and anglers are blessing the Criffei Lead Company.
