130 PEOPLE KILLED
LANDSLIP AND EARTHQUAKE. * Despatches from Tokio report that recently an earthquake took place in the vicinity of Kagi, in Formosa. The railway lines were twisted, telegraph poles knocked down, and many houses destroyed. The "Nichi Nichi Shimbun" states that the casualties number over 100, while the "Jigi j Shimpo" places them as high as ; 800. j An official telegram, however states | that the earthquake caused the i deaths of GO people. Many more were ! wounded, and 200 houses were desj troyed. A violent storm caused landslides and floods at different points in the neighbourhood of Rio do Janeiro, and 20 persons were killed and injured.
