While on his way to the United [ States, Huron Komura, the Japanese j peace delegate, was called upon to \ give an important judgement. The j women on the steamer had held a series of contests, and for the prize | in one of these, three women, tied. : A proposal was made to effect a compromise by drawing lots. Ultimately the solution was referred to liar'on Komura, who said that in his country age is held in the highest : respect: and so the. prize must be! given to the oldest of the three wo- ■ men. Uy his decision it went to a j contestant who claimed to be over GO. | ■
