QUARRELSOME.
"One day," said the magistrate, "O'Hafferty was up before me for insulting Patrick Murphy. " 'Why did you strike Mr. Murphy ?' I said. " 'Because, ycr honour, Murphy would not give me a civil answer. " 'What was the civil question you asked him ?' " 'I asked him as polite as ye plazc, yer honour, says I : "Murphy, ain't your own brother the biggest thafe out o'' gaol, excepting yourself and yer uncle, who is in the penitentiary ?" ' " ' And what rude answer did he give to such a civil question ?' " 'lie said to me, "Uv coorse, O'Kafterty—prisint company excepted," so 1 said, "Murphy, you're another,"' and thin, yer honour, I struck him wid me fist, I did.' "
