The following return of the mileage and fares to Pembroke was placed before the meeting of the members of the different branches of the RailwayLeagues of Upper Clutha at a meeting held in Cromwell on the 30th March by Mr McDougall, of Pembroke, as showing how the Otago Central route is handicapped : r.

Mi- MeDougall suggests that the (loverument should issue au excui-sion ticket during five months for Route No. 2 (the shortest), and thus encourage tlie Central Otago traffic. The cost of ticket for Route No. 4 is (juite out ef proportion compared with cost of Xo. 1. It compels people to return via Queenstown, theugh the distance is 53 miles further. There should be a motor car service between Cromwell and Pembroke during tourist season to make the trip in about hours, or less.
