LORD DUDLEY'S NARROW ESCAPE.

YACHT CAPSIZED DURING A REGATTA. The Earl of Dudley, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, recently had a narrow escape while steering his yacht in a race on Lough Erne. He had been staving with his brother, the Hon. Cyril Ward, at Rosferrv.. and attended the regatta of the Lough Erne Yacht Club, near Newtown Butler. The weather had been verv stormy, and the lough was extremely rough—so much so that at one time it was thought that it would be impossible to start the "Colleen" race. The wind moderated, however, and the race was begun. Lord Dudley took part in it in his yacht, accompanied by Captain Crichlon. his aide-de-camp, and son of the Earl of Erne, and Mabel Crichton. The Lord Lieutenant was steering, when, within half a mile of the win-ning-post, the wind freshened, and the boat capsized. The occupants were thrown Into the water, but they managed to cling to the overturned boat until they were rescued by a motor-boat belonging to Lord Dudley, which was following the race. While Captain Crichton was trying to cut away some of the gear of the capsized yacht, his knife slipped, and he gashed his leg seriously. The party was, for the time being, in considerable danger. None of the other yachts were able to render assistance, and the onlookers on the shore, who also were powerless to help, thought that the party would be drowned. Lord Dudley and Lady Mabel Crichton are none the worse for their experience.
