CYCLING NOTES.

i “ By Mun Guard.”]

The handicaps for the bike races at the Caledonian Sports appear elsewhere. J intended giving the “ straight tips ” but I am afraid the haudicappers have puzzled me. However I like Ritchie or Fache for the Novice. The Half-mile should be a good race and I expect to see the two scratch men fight out a linish, with E. Jolly close up. For the Three-mile my fancy is Symes, with Fache or Ritchie second : and for the Five-mile I like E. Jolly and E. Watson. ## * . The following are the entries for the Ono Mile Championship ; Messrs Jolly, Bymes, M'Elligott, Ritchie, Scott. Watson, Murray, O’Leary, and MicheP. If the Caledonian Society can- only make arrangements with the clerk of the weather for Monday next, £ feel sure this will be the most successful meeting they have held and they justly deserve it as they nave done all iu their power to please competitors and public alike. The Cromwcll-Clyde Record for Mr May's trophy is now closed, 45miu, being th« time and E, Watson the successful competitor. This is a most popular win. Mr Watson was the tirst to make an attempt, his time on that occasion being oSmin, which w : as reduced by E. Jolly to 56^min, A. Murray to 52^min, W, Jolly to oLjtniu. W. Ritchie to 46-jniin, iu turn, and then ou Friday last E. Watson got to the end of the 13 miles in loann, riding into Clyde with a buckled wheel rubbing against the forks, a loose saddle, and several cute, the result of a spill. So we must put down his. time of 45miu. as a wonderfully good performance. W. Ritchie made a plucky attempt at it on Saturday, the last day, starting from here in a head wind, which continued the whole of the journey, and getting there one minute over the record time. This ride must also be classed as “very good,” aud had he bocu favored with a good day, I thiuk it is a certaiuty that he would have got iu under the loann. Tv >6 ifNow that this record is closed as far as Mr May’s trophy is concerned, I thiuk too much praise canuot be giveu to the popular boniface of the Golden Age. He is a true cyclist’s friend, and 1 am sure he must feel gratified at the enthusiasm shown over this record, not only by cyclists, but by everyone alike, from the smallest boy to the livery stable proprietors, aud that ia saying a lot, but I hear that one of the latter had several wagers on it. * * « I have been requested to ask all the members and intending members of the V.C.C. to endeavor to meet at the Golden Age Hotel at half past ten ou the morning of the sports when Mr M‘Eacben will take a photo of the club. There will also be a parade of cyclists immediately afterwards, in which I hope to see all riders, members of the club and otherwise take part.
