SPORTING.

A petition, signed by some of the stewards of the Alexandra Jockey Club, has been forwarded to the Cromwell Tradesmen’s Racing Club, asking them to remove the disqualification of the jockey John M'Naughton, who was put on the shelf for three years at the last gathering of the latter club for foul riding. It will be noticed in our advertising columns that the Lake County Jockey Club has added to their programme a Trial Stakes of £4O. The race is restricted to three and four-year-olds bred in Vincent, Southland, Wallace and Lake Counties, the distance being one mile. This event should elicit large nominations.

On dit that Tommy Buddicombe and Adam King, the two well-known jockeys, will grace the forthcoming , Spring meetings with their presence.

“Reeping Tom” in the Ijjake County Press has it that Ulster is a bay mare got by Sou’-wester, and was purchased at Christchurch after the National Meeting by a popular Skippers’ sport, the amount of the purchase money being £6O. This writer states on good authority that Mr Cotter, who was previously reported to have bought the mare, has no interest in her whatever. - ;

Mr Cowan has his Derby colt Silver Coin and last year’s Derby candidate Stockmaid in training at Kiwarau Station at present, and they are both reported to be in forward condition. The latter filly is a long way above the average of country bred ones, and should win a good race if brought to the post well. She is a game mare, and ran a good second in last year’s Derby, while a few days before she was hardly able to walk tyith shinsoreness.

At a sale of greyhounds in Melbourne (says Christchurch Truth) one dog was withdrawn at 210 guineas.

The sporting writer in the Tasmanian Clipper says ‘—Sporting men will be interested to know that a day has been fixed for the drawing of the, St. Albans lottery. The tickets have gone off so well that Mr Geo. Adams who is conducting the lottery, is confident that the whole 125,000 will be sold within the next three months, and it has been definitely decided to hold the drawing on October 24. This will be after the Oaufield Cup but before the V.R.C. meeting, and Mr W. R. Wilson’s familar livery will therefore be absent from Flemington next November.
