The charge against George Weir, licensee of hotel Metropole, St. Clair, for permitting drunkenness in his house, was dismissed. The case arose out of the death in the snow of a man named Been. Floods are reported in the Upper Taieri river. At the criminal sittings to-day, true bills were found in all cases except that of forgery of his father's name against young Munrp. Donald Jones, for breaking aud entering, wai sentenced to 2 years ; Albert Gods for same offence received 2 years; John Melvin Fame offence 2 years; John Madson theft 6 months. There, was a sharp shock of earthquake at Taupo at 7.30 this morning, and a slight one at 8. The Star's correspondent telegraphs that he is prepared to find that the Banking Committee have alniost unanimously arrived at conclusions that the colony must again come to the assistance of the Bank of New Zealand, Government taking over the estates of Estates Co,
