Some time ago a complaint, made that witnesses, who had given evidence against Minnie Dean, had not been paid expenses, led to their at once receiving the money. It now appears the Justice Department allowed guards 6s per day and 4s per night for expenses, but the Railway Department paid to the guards only 4s per day altogether, an amount which could not have paid for their board and lodging.
