Gold at Wellington.

Wellington, August 13, Four applications have been received by the City Council for the mining leases on the Karori Keservoir Reserve, just outside the town, on a prospect said to give over 2oz to the con. Many years ago a fair quantity of alluvial gold was found in the creek at Baker Hill, and the existence of a reef was suspected, but it was never found. The prospectors, who have been at work for some time, think that they have now hit upon this reef. The Council have instructed their engineer ! to report how the reservoir is likely to be affected before granting the leases.
