The two red deer referred to in our last issue as being on the road from Dunedin to Hawea, passed through Cromwell last Wednesday, and were liberated at Timaru Creek the following day. The Cadzow-Neill Co. were unfortunate in having extremely bad weather on Sunday night, when they were to have given a sacred concert. They postponed the concert till last night, when they had a fair house. We regret to report that Alick Stivens met with an accident yesterday between the Half-way House and Feltou's. While attempting to step up on to the seat ot his waggon, he slipped and fell, the wheel passing over aud smashing his right big toe. He was taken to the Clyde hospital. Snow fell heavily on Sunday, the flats being covered to a depth of from three to six inches. The fall was much heavier on the Carrick and Mount Pisa, where it fell to a depth of 18 inches. At Pembroke, we hear, there was a fall of 18 inches, and 15 inches in the Wakatipu district. The telegraph lines are down everywhere. The concert announced for Friday night last, in aid of the Binnockburn School, proved a big financial success, the attendance being very large. The Cadzow-Neill Co., assisted by MrM'George, who sang one song, provided the entertainment, having been engaged by the Committee. Needless to say, the company gave an excellent entertainmeut, and were accorded well merited applause. Mr Edward M'Nulty's dray, while coming across the Banuockburn bridge yesterday, sank through the planking on one side, the wheel disappearing to the knave. The jerk caused the leader to swerve to one side, throwing Mr M'Nulty, who was driving on foot, against the rotten railiug, through which, by the merest chance, he escaped falling. A similar accident, we hive since beau informed by Mr John Pryde, happened to him about a month ago. This is not the first time we have had to chronicle accidents on this bridge, due to its disgraceful condition. We hops it may not yet be our duty to announce a fatality. The bridge should either be closed at ouce, or else reconstructed. After so forcible a warning as the escape above referred to, councillors will be solely to blame if a serious accident does occur,
