The Jockey Club have accepted the resignation of the handicappers, thanking them for past services, and regret the cause of their resignation. The Club have handed the Benevolent Institution £lO3, making £274 for the year. Two fatal accidents are reported from Canterbury, an old man named Robinson and Miss Wright being the victims of separate buggy accidents. Steps are likely to be taken to annul the bankruptcy of David Proudfoot. At the Waimea Plains Railway Company's meeting a satisfactory increase in traffic was reported. The question of the rate to be paid is still under appeal, and the terms offered by the Government for the purchase of the line were not satisfactory and had been rejected. Mr Macandrew is to move at the University Council that it is desirable that three model farms or schools of agriculture be established.
