Mr Ballance has returned to Wellington without coming further South than Timaru. The accumulation of work in the Defence Department is said to he the reason. A child five years of age was found on board the Northern Express on Saturday. As uo one appeared to claim him he was taken charge of by the police, and returned to Oamaru to-day. A destructive fire occurred on Saturday at Wellington destroying Te Aro House, one of the largest drapexy houses there. The Insurances amount to £14,500, distributed among nineteen offices.
