Cockabulla and Artful Joe kept company all the way round, but finally Cockabulla drew away, and won by two lengths. Maori Chief was the favorite, though Dandy, in spite of his heavy impost, was fancied and backed by some ; Wildboy too had supporters. A good start having been effected, Investment went at once to the front with a strong lead, but after going quarter of a mile bolted as usual. Maori Chief then took up the running, and for a mile looked like the winner, but Wildboy and Dandy drawing up, he had to retire, Wildboy led into the straight, when he was passed by Dandy, who won a good race by a length and a half. Hack Race, of 5 sovs. District race. Halfmile heats. No weight under 11 stone. For all horses that have never started for public money. Mr L. M‘Lean’s Tommy ... 1 1 P, Urqnbart’s Rory, H. M'Kinlay’a Biddy, and T. Muir’s Katie also ran. This was a gift to Tommy, who won both heats easily. For the Consolation stakes, of 5 sovs, only Wildboy and Schomberg entered, so the race fell through for want of a third entry.
