As ihe season is approaching when proper lanitary regulations demand the use of disinfectants, it.may be well to state for the information of our readers, that prominent anoug the substances used as a disinfects t now is carbolic acid. A Ithough of comparatively recent introduction, it has fomd great favour, and its in-troduction-or disinfecting purposes as well as its use n the preservation of meats, woods, &c., las created an immense demand for it. Railway sleepers steeped in it have been found tclast for more than twenty years, while tlose not thus prepared have decayed and beome worthless in five years at farthest. Mat, bones, hides, Ac., are perfectly preserved by immersion in this acid for a consi lovable length of time. But its principal ij e fa as a disinfectant.
