Quite a nunUber of folks have gone to other places for the holidays, and many new faces have come in to replace them. Good weather is adding to the comforts of the time, and the district looks well.

The annual school breakup was held in the hall, and took the form of a concert >by the pupils, under the aWe Suulabce of fllr T. F. O'Connell and jliss f ßae. The attendance of parents and others showed a keen interest in the •children's progress. Mr Poster (chairman) conducted the proceedings. The .prizes were presented by Dr Truby King, who was in good form to do justice to the occasion. His remarks on j<yhild welfare developed into a lecture, and many of the ideas expressed met 'with vheartv applause. His interest in having a new and modern type of school erected here was freely exjjjained, and if he can win the approval of the education authorities the present crowded and insanitary condiiioiis prevailing here witf lie rernedi|d yrithin six months. An;epidemic of .measles is affecting the district and many children arc ill. Nothing serious has come from it so far.
