Mr j. C. Browne, who -was recently appointed -organiser for -the Otago district for the 'Farmer®' Union-, has intimated to the 'Clutha 'branch that he intends to visit this -locality and endeavoi"' to work up more interest in" the Union.

Dr W. P. Johnston, eldest son of Mr and -Mrs T. A. Johnston, "Lorraine," North Balclutha, spent the week-end in' Balcl-utha with his people. Dr Johnston lias recently been- acting as military doctor in 'Auckland, which position he has now resigned in- order to take up the practice of his profession in Hastings.

Rev. G. E. Morelon, chaplain in charge of -the Anglican Memorial Home for Boys at Duuedhi, has been spending a few days in the Olutha district. The home is for orphan and neglected boys, and 'Mr 'Moreton's visit is to stimulate practical interest- and support for the home, which is the official war memorial -of'the Anglican 'Church in this diocese.

The death occurred at Toiro on Saturday, at the age of 84 years, of Mr John Crawford, a very old and much respected settler of the district, who arrived' in New Zealand 'by the ship Robert Heiwlersom in ISo's, and after settling in the Tokoniairiro 'district- 'took up 'his residence at Toiro in 1862, amd carried 'on- the business of storekeeper there for many years.
