I A London cablegram states that Right Hon. \V. F, Massey is to receive a doetorship at Cambridge on November 18. He will attend the Privy Council, when the King will preside. Mr Massey and Sir J. G. Ward will visit the troops in France on October l! 0. The British American, published in Chicago, U.S.A., under date September 9, prints the following interesting paragraph regarding an ex-Balclutha boy: A wedding of some interest is reported from Chicago. Mr J(. Pennycook, son of Major W. S. Pennycook, Balclutha, was, on September 2, wedded to Miss Anna Louise Slab v. of St. Louis, No., the ceremony being performed. by Rev. Dr Wm. 0. Covert, of the First Presbyterian Church. The bridegroom Vas attended by Mr J. Eric Peterson, a Chicago fellow-workman and a well-known Chicago boxer and athlete, while the bride had as bridesmaid Miss Cora Liebeck. The bride (who first met Mr Pennycook while on a visit to Chicago) was born at Verdun, France, and has lived in the States for 10 years. The 'happy eouple intend making their home in Chicago, where Mr Pennycook has a responsible position in the Telephone Switchboard Department of the Western Electric Company, a corporation employing 25,000 people. Mr Alexander Campbell, «!' Kelso, \v;i S presented by Hon. .las. Alleu (Minister for Defence) at Duuedin on Saturday wit-h the Distinguished Conduct Medal that was won by his son, •the late Sergeant Campbell, during the : Gallipoli campaign. Mr Allen spoke of the conspicuous gallantry of the late Sergeant Campbell from August 21 to 31, at Kaiajik Aghala, when he displayed great bravery and resource in the performance of his .work and a marked devotion, to duty. After the presentation Mr Campbell was carried off the ground by returned soldiers. Sergeant Campbell was killed in Prance last June. Sergeant 'Higgins, of the Police Force, who will retire from the force shortly, was at various times stationed at Clinton, Milton, Kaitanga-ta and Waitahuna. ITe will in future make
