Sir Daniel Stevenson, chairman of tke Joint Committee of the Coal Owners and Exporter's, said lately that in consequence of the invasion of French. territory the consumption of coal in France had fallen from 60,000,000 tons to 42,000,000 tons a yiear. -Production; for the same reason, had; fallen from 40,000,000 ton® to about 19,000,000. "German and Belgian sources of supply being now closed, she is obliged to oome to Great Britain to ask her to make up the deficit. As the export from Great Britain to France before the war was about 10,000,000 tons a year, an additional 13,000,000 tons are now required."
