"CRIME AGAINST IRELAND."

SINN FEIN OUTBREAK. "It is a crime from every point of view," declared Archbishop Carr, of Melbourne, referring to the Dublin rebellion. "It is a crime against the loyalty of Ireland' in the trying time of war. It is a crime against the Irish National Parliamentary Party, which after centuries of misrule and mif understanding succeeded in uniting Ireland and the rest of the Empire in an honorable and mutually beneficial agreement, It is a crime against the brave Irish soldiers who are maintaining the chivalry of their race and the prowess of their arms in every battle waged against the common enemy. It is therefore a. crime against the fair fame of Ireland, which to the uninitiated may seem to have some part in this rebellious outbreak.

"But Ireland will undoubtedly refuse to accept responsibility for this rebellion. She has no responsibility. Those who took part in the outbreak have been sworn enemies of the Irish National Party for years. The Irish .National Party strove, and strove successfully, to undo' the mischief done to England almost as much as to Ireland by that Act of Union which Hilaire Belloc has lately pronounced to be the most stupid' and disastrous Act ever parsed by a British Parliament. Those who are not intimately acquainted with the condition of things as thoy exist in Ireland, and the existence for' a considerable tine of a small extreme Socialistic party, should suspend judgment until the full facts are known." Archbishop Can- added: "To all Ireland, and to those who are familiar with things as they are, enough is known to assure them "that the Irish people as such have no part in this rebellious, unfortunate, and altogether contemptible movement. The evidence of Irish loyalty is abundant."
