ELASTIC MORALITY.
I A veiy interesting people whose future will probably be in Russia's charge are the Laz or Lazis. They inhabit the. coastal strip east of Trehizond and the mountains behind it. There could hardly be a greater contrast than between their manners at home and abroad. Every spring large numbers of them go to Ki'zerum to iserve as trar- j doners and agriculturists, and they | are found there to he quiet, orderly and j trustworthy folk. Many of the Constantinople boatmen are' Laz. all these having served in the Turkish Navy, and patrons find them honest and civil. But at home in Lazistan they are inveter- i ate robbers, and in the past they have i been notorious as pirates.
