KAITANGATA NEWS.
FROM Ot'E OWN CORRESPONDENT. j KAITANGATA LIBRARY. I A meeting of subscribers to the Kaitangata athenaeum and library was held on Tuesday uight for the purpose of making sue It alterations in the rules as would be conducive to bringing in as subscribers many of the young lads who, upon leaving school, fail to recognise the advantages to be derived from an intimate knowledge of literature supplied by leading authors. While at school a boy or girl may choose from a wellstocked school library many of the standard works of the present or past generation of writers, am! it is with the object of placing the public library and reading room within reasonable reach of these boys and girls upon their leaving school Thar the athenaeum subscribers I met and altered the subscription fees to a figure low enough to suit those being catered for. The scale agreed upon is as follows:—For I t years or over that age: Admission to the reading room, tis per year, as per half-year, 2s per quarter; to the library, 3s per year, ;js per half-year, Js Gd per quarter; to both reading room and library, 10s per year, 5s (hi per half-year, :ts per quarter. It will thus be seen that the members are making an earmst endeavour to encourage the youth of the town to spend their spare time in a profitable manner. It is to be hoped that the action of the athenaeum people will be properly appreciated and the scheme turn out a thorough success.
