CJLEARItfG feALE\ The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company report having held a clearing sale on account of Mr John Ciorrigan at Hillend on Tuesday last. There was a good attendance of buyers, and good prices were obtained all through. Following are some of the prices:—46o ewes (mixed ages) 22s 9d, 280 lambs 16s 7d, cull lambs 9s 3d, wethers to 18s, draught horses from £24 to £3l 10s, steers up to £o, cows to £5 7s 6d, calves to £2 10s. Implements and sundries sold at satisfactory prices. THE PRICE OF SHEEP. A leading dealer informed a Southland Times reporter on Saturday that exorbitant prices are at present being demanded for sheep by some farmers. He stated that during a visit to the South Hillend (Southland) district the previous week as much as 3s per head more than/sheep were worth was demanded of. him. Prom one source or another the farmers of the Clutha have been getting at, the very least full value for their stock this season; in fact, for a considerable time they have been getting more than its value.
