CLUTHA PRESBYTERY.

Tho Presbytery of Clutha met for/ ordinary business at Milton on Wednesday of this week, when there were present the Rev. Mr Morton (Moderator pro tern), and Me:srs Currie, Cuttle and McCully (ministers) and Messrs McSkimming, Edwards, Nelson, Thomson, Camp- , bell and Kilgour (elders). Apologies for j absence were received from the Revs. Watson, Williams, Durward and Pon- j der, and from Mr Edie. The Moderator | extended a licnrty welcome to Mr McCully as a new member of Presbytery, j Tt was agreed, on the motion of Mr i Currie, seconded by Mr McSkimming, 1 to express the Presbytery's sincere svm- , pathy with the Rev. Mr Watson in his j illness, and its hope for his speedy restoration to health. It was agreed, on the motion of Mr McCully, seconded by Mr Edwards, to express the Presbytery's sincere sympathy with Mr John Edie and family in the death of Mrs Edie. Mr McSkimming thanked the Presbytery for its kindly sympathy with him and his in their recent bereavement and sorrow. v Arrangements were made for the supply of Warepa pulpit for a few weeks, and the matter of further supply, if necessary, was left in the hands of the clerk. Mr Morton reported on the Owaka vacancy. The clerk reported that the Clutha Presbytery was the Assembly's Committee on Protestant Principles, and moved, and Mr McCully seconded, and it was agreed to, that a committee consisting of Messrs Durward, Ponder, McCaw and Edie be appointed to attend to the matter and report to the Presbj'tery. It was agreed to appoint Mr McCully (in Mr Tylee's place) as the Presbytery's representative on the Youth of the Church Committee. The consideration of the question of establishing a Clutha Presbytery bursary was deferred till next meeting. On the motion of Mr Currie, seconded by Mr McSkimming, a committee con-, sisting of Messrs Morton, Cuttle and McCully was appointed to consider suggested amendments to the Book of Order, and to report to next meeting. On the motion of Mr Currie, seconded by Mr Cuttle, the following motion was agreed to: "The Presbytery calls the attention of the congregations within the bounds to the fact that this is the ' year for the no-license poll, and urges ministers and office-bearers to do what they can, through Bands of Hope and other temperance organisations, and from the pulpit, in the way of educating the people with the view of obtaining a good vote on both issues." On the motion of Mr McCully, seconded by Mr McSkimming, it was agreed that the attention of ministers and sessions be called to the Assembly's recommendation that classes for the training of leaders for Bible class and, Sunday school workers be established, as far as possible, in each congregation.

On the motion of Mr McSkimming, seconded by Mr McCully, it was agreed to direct deacons' courts to give congregations an opportunity of contributing to the collection for the Theological College (Knox College). It was agreed to meet for ordinary » business at Milton on Thursday, June 11, at 10.15 a.m., and for the induction of the Rev. S. Robertson Orr to Milton on rlie evening of that day at 7 o'clock.
