MR SEMPLE ON THE STRIKE. PREDICTS GOVERNMENT DEFEAT. SYDNEY, March M. Mr R. Sample (organiser of the United Federation of Labor in New Zealand) is a passenger by the Maunganui. He says tnat the industrial organisations in tlie Dominion received a severe blow on the. recent strike but were not defeated. He expressed the opinion that as a result of the next elections at the end of the year the Massey Government would suiter defeat. He criticised the Government's treatment as worse than that of General iiotha (South African Prime Minister). WHARF LABORERS' UNION. MEN COMPELLED TO JOIN. WELLINGTON, March 13. For a day or two past members of the executive of the Wharf Laborers' Union have been making personal inquiries among the men working on the waterfront, and have found several men at work who are not members of the union. To-day several of these men were dismissed on the ground that frequent warnings had been given from time to time that all wharf workers must join the union. It is reported that some of the men had been boasting that they would not join the union.
