The above club held its anuulil sports ou Mr Johnston's clearing in the valley on Saturday. There were about 200 people present, slightly less than the number present at previous gatherings, due no doubt to the decreased number of men now engaged on the railway construction works, and the threatening morning, which must have deterred several settlers and their families from driving in from a distance. The afternoon was fine and warm and everything passed off pleasantly. Mr A. Aherne had a tent from which sweets, soft drinks, tea, sandwiches and cakes could be procured, and his enterprise in this direction was well rewarded. The chopping and sawing events, for which there were good prizes, were the chief attraction, aud competitors from some distance attended. The competition was Keen, and some really good performances were put up. The track was too .rough to allow of anything in the way of fast times in running events being put up. Messrs Hartstonge and Ingram bore the brunt of the work, and we are indebted to these officials for the courtesy extended to our reporter. Mr A. M.
