Fieder.ck John Craddock, who was arrested nt Auckland in the middle of the week and remanded to appear at Onristchurch on a charge of haviiv stolen a iiumlwr of the words (such as nrivate ledger, cash hook and stock sheets) of tlir Craddock Hardware Co., Ltd.. of Christchurcii. was brought before Mr E. C. Cutten this morn.'ng, when Chief Detective McMahon , asked that the prisoner be remanded to appear at Auckland on Wednesday. He said that the TMiliee had received a wire stat ng that tile directors of the company desired the case to be tried at Auckland and that they, were on their wav up here for that purpose. The magistrate remarked that the difficulty was that in the case of committal here all the witnesses would have to be brought at heavy expense from ChristDetective McMahon said that the information was laid by the directors, not the police, and he thought that when the proceedings came on the mag : strate would discover thai! the matter would be fixed up. so that there would !*> no committal. Mr Singer, who appeared for accused, stated that he would have no objection, if there were a committal, to the case going to Christcimrch. The magistrate thereupon agreed to the accused being remanded to appear at Auckland on Wednesdav. and prisoner was released on bail of two sureties provided by relatives.
