FIRE BRIGADES' CONFERENCE.

WANGANTJI, Feb. 18. The United Fire Brigades' Association Conference was concluded to-day, when the Special Committee's reports on medal decorations, whistle signals, gold stars, and the Benevolent Fund were discussed, and the remainder of the remits dealt with. The president presented gold stars ('25 years' service) to the following: Foreman F. Eggeling (Hokitika), Fireman F. McGregor (Hokitika), Fireman 0. 11. F. Dumoulin (Rangiora). Fireman A. G. Miller (Rangiora), Secretary L. Anderson (Hastings), Fireman A. Arm it (RosIvn), Fireman J. Holland (Timaru), Fireman E. Townsend (Wanganui), Fireman W. Bladgon (South Dunedin), and Fireman T. Pickard (Southbrook). The election of officers resulted: President, Superintendent Spriggens (Wanganui); vice-presidents, Captains Campbell and Salmond; treasurer and secretary. The Accident Assurance Society held its 21 st annual meeting, the president (Mr Bellringer, oi New Plymouth) in tho chair. The annual ; report stated that though the claims' Had'been heavy the funds had increased, and there was now a satisfactorv balance. Ninety-five brigades were affiliated, with a membership of 1762. The revenue. la_st year was £320 15s, an increase of £47 2s sd. Total payments were £193. The society's accumulated funds totalled £IBSO 19s 9d, an increase of £127 10s. The hoaviclaims made on the society were from brigades employing permanent men. whose claims totalled £l5B os. It was decided that the financial year should end on December 31. in accordance with friendly societies' annual returns. Captain ' Ralston (Inglewood) wag elected nresident unowoosed, and Lieutenant Mulvihill and Sub-Superin-tendent Wiltlish were elected vice-presi-dents ; Messrs Scantlebury, T. J. Watts and P, L. Eraser were re-elected treasurer. secretary and auditor respectively.
