KAISER'S FIFTH GRANDSON.

The Kaiser's Christmas was made happier than usual by the birth on a recent afternoon of his fifth grandchild, a son being born to his daugh-ter-in-law, Princess August Wilhelm of Prussia, at her palace in the Wilhelmstraxse at Berlin. The event was proclaimed with the customary salute of 72 guns by the batteries of the guard of artillery at I'otsdam and Berlin. The German Kmpress was at the Tiedside of her daughter-in-law, who is also her niece, since five 'o'clock in tho morning. Both the mother atijj- the baby Prince are reported to bo doing well The Kaiser has called at the palace to congratulate his son—who is a "civilian" prince of the Imperial Family, being a doctor of philosophy and a student of civic government — and to leave a beautiful bouquet of orchids and roses for tho young mother. AT] tho Kaiser's grandchildren ar« boys, tho four children of the Crown Prince being Princes. Prince August Wilhelm, who is the Kaiser's fourth son, was married on October 22, 1908, to Princess Alexandra Victoria of Scbleswig-Holstein. Both the Prince and the Princess are aged 20.
