SEARCH FOR WEALTHY BRIDE. Count Leopold von Saldern-Ahlimb and his mother, Countess Louise von Saldern-Ahlimb, belonging to a wellknown German family, were charged lately at Weisbaden with obtaining £750 by false pretences. The count has been in custody since May. The defence put forward on his behalf is that he is mentally deficient and afflicted with a mania for extravagance. It was alleged that he and his mother lived in brillint style in Wiesbaden hotels and boardinghouses on money advanced by hall porters and landladies. After amassing, it is alleged, debts amounting to £30,000 or £40,000 for such luxuries as motor-cars, racehorses, and Italian ■ palms and distributing bills of exchange for £15,000 the count was induced to consider a marriage with m heiress as the easiest way out of his difficulties.
