LOVELLS FLAT.
The Lovells Flat Bible Circle held their anivual social in the Coronation Hall on Tuesday evening, 4th inst., when a very enjoyable time was spent. Visitors were present from Stirling -and Milton, and greetings from the Endeavour Societies at those places were received; Mr Hislop spoke on behalf of the Stirling Society. During the first part of the evening a short and interesting programme was given. liev. A. Morton occupied the chair, and on behalf of the local Bible Circle welcomed the visitors and spoke of the work and aims of the society. Songs were given by Mesdames Smith and Kerr, Miss Robson and Messrs D, and Wm. Tweed; also recitations 'by Mrs D. Bowie and Misses Higgie (Milton) and Clarke. The latter part of the programme was a charade, in which the word "phantom" was enacted in three scenes. The characters were Mr Debit, a merchant; Tom Highdon, his clerk; Julius, a coloured servant; Mrs Reeves and lOllen Reeves, her daughter, and were taken by Messrs It. Clarke, A. S. Morton, Mr McNeur, Misses S. and I). Appleby, and were exceedingly well sustained throughout. The tragedy of the piece was the old story —a proud mamma's refusal to countenance her daughter's lover —and the comedy was supplied by the "coloured gentleman." The remainder of the evening was devoted to games and supper, and the gathering terminated about 12 o'clock by the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."
