Messrs C. G. Martin (chairman of the sub-Leiague) and J. B. Waters (secretary of the Dunedin League) both spoke in appreciative j terms of Mr Christie's services. The recipient suitably replied. Mr Mark Summers, of Balclutha, who returned home from a holiday on Saturday, had an interesting tour off the beaten track. Together with a party of five from Invercargili and Riverton, he took train to Mossburn, driving thence to the twin lakes Mavora, on the Mararoa river. The roads were too rough for motors, and the journey was done by horse-drawn vehicles. The country passed through was sheep ruus, but exel lent pasture was evidently obtainable, the grass being luxuriant. At Mavora the time was spent mostly in fishing. The fly was tried but abandoned, the minnow being the bait to take. During the three days spent at the lake 86 fish were taken, 16 of them weighing an average of 10 Alb a-piece, the total weight being 254 pounds. Mr Summers is delighted with the place as a summer resort, and recommends anyone wishing to spend a holiday "far from the madding crowd" to try Mavora.
