PICNICS.

TUAPEKA MOUTH SCHOOL. (From a Correspondent.) Although the weather was a little unsettled the Tuapeka Mouth school picnic was fairly well attended by the local people, and there were also a few present from Tuapeka West. The juveniles showed keen interest in all the events. Ample refreshments were provided by the ladies, and there was a lolly scramble for the children. The thanks Ox the committee are due to Mr W. A. The Clydevale picnic and sports held on Wednesday were favoured with the finest of weather; indeed, the sun shone all too fervantly for the open ground where the picnic was held. There was a good turn-out of people, and it was noticeable that a considerable number came from Balclutha. The officials of the gathering worked well together, and it was by no means their fault that the sports events were somewhat late, but rather the fault of the contestants. Where there were many willing workers it would be invidious to single out any for special mention, but we must make an exception of the hard-working secretary, Mr Guy Overton, and the genial anil ever-ready president, Mr Snushall. Tea was to be had in plenty, and there were a few side shows, Aunt Sally, etc. Following is the result of the sports events: — Settlers' Race—.l. McKeu/.ie (scratch) 1, G. Dunlop 2. Si.v entries.
