CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSIONERS. THREE APPOINTMENTS. WELLINGTON, Nov. 27. Tl* following have been appointed Civil Service Commissioners under the Act passed last session:— Mr Donald Robertson, 1.5.0., Secretary to the Post Office Commissioner).

Mr Robert Tnggs, for many years in the New Zealand Railway Department and now Chief Accountant in the Post- - toaster-General's Department of the Australian Commonwealth. ' Mr A. D. Thomson, S.M. at Palmerston North.

Mr Robert Triggs is very well known fmong the older members of the New ealand public service. He was formerly for years in the Railway Department, and rose to the position of chief clerk in the locomotive engineer's department under Mr Rotheram, locomotive engineer. When Mr Rotheram wok the position of chief engineer of West Australian railways Mr Triggs followed his former chief, being appointed chief accountant of the West Australian Railway Department, a position which he held for many years. About two years ago the Federal Government advertised throughout Australasia for a chief accountant of the Commonwealth Postal Department, and out Of some hundreds of applications Mr Triggs received the appointment. Mr Triggs is 54 years of age.

PRIME MINISTER'S REFERENCES. AUCKLAND, Nov. 27, At the opening of the new Reform Uub s premises this evening the Prime Jjunister made an announcement regarding the Public Service. Mr Masafcy said that political patronage was at to end and that the Government had carried into effect last session's Act reforming the service.—(Applause.) Mr Massey went on to say he Believed that, although there was :> little anxiety on the part of sime Civil Servants when the Act was under consideration, in a year or two thev would realise that the right thing had been done.—(Applause.) The new Commissioners would take up their duties on March 31 next. CABINET AUTHORISATIONS. WELLINGTON, Nov. 27. Cabinet has authorised the expenditure of the following amounts:—Foundations Parliament Buildings, £3OOO- - Island Main Trunk. £1000: Auckland Grammar School, £6OOO and £6OOO in 1914; Midland railway, £4000; Coal Creek railway extension, £4007Otago Central irrigation, £1000: Law-rence-Roxburgfh railway, £2000; Lake Coleridge works, £1718; railway rolling s*ock, £6000; 20 miles aerial cables, £3Bll.
