INCH CLUTHA RIVER AND ROAD BOARD.

An ordinary meeting of the above was held in Stirling Library Hall on Saturday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs Jos. Mosley (Chairman), j'ne. Smith, Wm. Weir, P. Anderson and Jas. McKinlay (Clerk).

In moving the adoption of the minutes of special meetings recently held, Mr Weir said that the Board was under an obligation to Mr Mosley, as he had gone to a great deal of trouble. —The Chairman said he had only done his duty.

The folowing letter was received from the Hon. Jas. Allen: "I forward you herewith a copy of a letter which I have received from the Hon. Minister of Public Works, in which he informs me that a vote of £2OO, £1 for £1 (ou account of £1000) was provided on the Supplementary Estimates for the protection of Inch Clutha."—Mr Mosley said that this showed that Mr Allen was taking an active interest in Tnch Clutha and he would like to move a motion that the Clerk write to Mr Allen thanking him for his attention. Mr Anderson moved that the Clerk write to Mr Allen,'thanking him for his efforts on behalf of the people of Inch Clutha and also specially thanking him for getting the additional grant amounting to £2OO, placed on the Supplementary Estimates. Seconded by Mr Weir and carried. Reference was made to the cut bank in Mr D. Boyd's property. As it was understood that Mr Boyd in-, tended to fill the bank up it was decided to take no action in the meantime.

Mr Mosley moved: "That notice be given that anyone found wilfully cuttig or damaging flood banks in Tnch Clutha in future will be prosecuted." Seconded by Mr Weir and carried. The matter of arranging a bank account was left to the chairmau and Mr Weir, vyho were instructed to interview local'bankers and to get the-best terms possible. The Chairman said the engineer of tho Public Works Department wished the Board to have the breaches in the banks filled up as soon as possible. It was for the Board to decide whether the work-be done by contract or day

labor. He might point oat that any work by day labor costing over £2O was illegal.

Mr Weir moved that the clerk, after he has examined the breaches in the banks, call for tenders for the repair of same, tenders to be in by ten days' time.

Mr McKinlay was. appointed clerk, collector, treasurer and inspector of works for the Board, on the motion Messrs Mosley and Weir. The salary was fixed at £25, not including the inspectorship. Mr Weir moved that the clerk be instructed to write the Bruce County Council asking that all books and records belonging to the Board be returned.—Seconded by Mr Smith and carried.

The clerk was authorised to get a complete set of books necessary for the office. The clerk was also instructed to apply to the Valuation Department for a valuation roll of all rateable properties iu Inch Clutha. The Chairman and Mr Weir were appointed to sign cheques. Meetings of the Board were fixed for Thursdays monthly—in the afternoon during winter and evening during summer.

The Chairman and Messrs Anderson and McKinlay were appointed a deputation to wait on Hon. Mr Allen during his visit at Kaitangata asking him to use his endeavours to get a Public Works engineer to take levels of the banks.

The Chairman moved that the clerk draw up a petittion, to be signed by the ratepayers, setting forth the necessity to obtain a loan of £IOOO, on £ for £, under the State Guarantees Advances Act.—Agreed to. The meeting then terminated.
