OWAKA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

Alter a long, long spell of wet weather the last two days have been quite a treat, and we earnestly pray that for the sake of the crops—many of which are still to be sown—we may get a few weeks of sunshine. In the gardens , vegetables, as well as , other things, are very backward, and slugs are numerous. However, grass is in abundance, and all stock ia in firsV class order, and the milk season promises to be one of the best. When we compare our lot with those in other countries, where so much trouble and confusion reigns, we may well be thankful that "our lines have fallen in such pleasant places." ; Our school was examined by Inspector Kichardson on the. 4th, when no doubt our young folk distinguished themselves in no small degree, and did credit to their instructors. After the exam, the school had a week's holidays, which proved refreshing to teachers and scholars alike. Before closing for the mid-summer holidays the school will hold its annual concert, when the children will take a large part in the programme. The addition to the school has been completed, and not only addß to the comfort of the teachers and the children, but greatly to the appearance of the exterior of the building. Timd wears on apace, and the Xmas holidays will soon be with us. Everywhere the good wife is busy with her spring cleaning, and preparing for friends and visitors. Already cottages have been secured, and visitors begun to arrive at Pounawea, and we trust, that the weather conditions may be en improvement to last year, and

that one and all may have a happy 1 time, I

As usual the annual Convention is to be held at Pounawea, and quite a number of speakers are expected to be present.- We pray that spiritual life may indeed be deepened, and that showers oi blessing" may fall on the thirsty ground. 01 The Ladies' Guild of thePresbytierian Chuwfa are holding their annual able to-night and to-morrow afternoon and evening. For some months the ladies have been busy with the needle, and everything useful and ornamental will bo exhibited for sale. Beside this, oil paintings and other pictures will be available ; also a produce stall will be sure to find plenty of buyers. During j the tale refreshments will be provided for"the modust sum of 6d.

Although 1 have heard of no heavy baskets, still the anglers are about in good numbers, and the rivers ought to be in capital order this season. Owaka, Nov. 22, 1912.
