HARVEST THANKSGIVING.

CHUECH SOCIAL AT liOMAIIAPA. On Sunday last, May 26, the harvest thanksgiving services of the llomahapa portion of the South Molyneux Home Mission station were held, the, Public; Hall having been engaged for the occasion. The Loyal Alexandra Lodge of the M.U.L0.0.F. also held a church parade on the same evening, a large number of members being present, with the result that the hall was well Med, On the previous- afternoon the hall ha<J been tastefully decorated by the ladies of the congregation, with flowers, fruit, and vegetables of which quite a' large quantity had been donated. The service was conducted by R|iv. Mr McLean ivho, after welcoming the members of the lodge in a few well chosen words, preached a sermon appropriate to the occasion, and appreciated by the large and attentive congregation. The choir performed the musical part of the Her- 1 vice in their usual style, while the, singing of the hymns was most heartily joined in by the congregation. | On the following evening, the anniversary social of the church was held in the hall which proved none too large for the number who assembled. The tirst part of the programme con- ' sisted of a number of musical items j performed by the choir, and these it- j ems consisting of choruses, solos, and , trios were sung inra manner which told j of long'steady practice on the part of i the members, and of skilful tuition on ! , the part of the conductor, lir Jack- i j man, who certainly deserves great cro- : , dit for the successful jfliianner in which 1 he h" r " trained the . choir. Rev. Mr j ' 'Axelsen, having beta briefly introduced by Rev. Mr McLean, then gave a most j interesting address based on his well known philanthropic labours, among the young people of Dunedin. From the beginning he held the the attention of his o,udience, often convulsed over some humorous anecdote, so that all were sorry when the address came "to an end. Then followed refreshments, generously provided by the ladies, after which yotes of thanks wore proposed to the speaker, the ladies, the choir, and the man who boiled the billy. The singing of the National Anthem, followed by the Benediction, oronunced, by Mr MoLean, brought to a close /'one of the most successful church socials ever , held in Romahapa. I The fruit, vegetables; eto., were afterwards forwarded to the orphanage undo the management of Mr Axdun.
