RIOT AT LABOR CONFERENCE.

Threats, insults, and a riot marked the second day's proceedings of the annual conference of the Railwaymen's t'nion in Paris. Before the congress opened one delegate called another "a policeman"—one of the greatest possible insults in French labor circles —to which,'the first replied, "I'll blow the brdiris out of the next man who calls me a policeman." Discussion of this incident when the conference met led to a stormy scene.

A second turmoil was aroused when one delegate reproached another with having hidden under the bed when the police came to arrest him. The delegate said he had a wife and six children, who pushed him under the bed, and added that his accuser was a cad. One speaker asked that all present who had been in prison should raise their hands, and instantly there was a stately Showing, which considerably diminished when it became understood that the orator was referring to political offences only. The day's demonstration of the dignity of labor terminated with a free fight on the platform, in which one delegate seized the bell and hurled it into the room, while the president araed himself witfh the water-bottle.
