SOCIAL AND PRESENTATION.

AT TAHATIKA.

Quite a nunilwr of changes have £aken place in our district lately, several farms having-changed'hands. One oi our most respected settlers, Mr Mauler, is this week leaving for Lovells Flat, where he has purchased a farm. During their stay in Tahatika, he and his family have taken a very active part in the social life of the district, so it is felt their departure will leave a blank. On Wednesday evening, a large gathering of friends from Owaka, Purekireki, and Tahatika assembled at the residence of Mrs'G. Souness, to wish Mr and Mrs Maider farewell. Shortly after all the gueste had assembled Mr G. Gillespie addressed the company, and in a few well selected words expressed appreciation ot" Mr Maider's services m the district and our regret at his leaving the district. He then called on Mr G. Johnstone, senr., to make, a presentation of a case of pipes, suitably inscribed, to Mr Maider, Mrs G. Souness to present a pair of silver backed brushes to Mrs Maider, and Miss Marshall to present a pair of silver vases, to Miss Maider. To i\\\ of these Mr Maider suitably responded. Three cheers were called for the guests', and all present joined in singing "For I they are jolly good fellows." The I Jloor was then cleared for ilancing, which, broken at times by songs recitations, etc,, was kept up till morning. The following contributed to. the programme :—Mr McDonald, bagpipe selections : Mr Maider, songs : Mr G. Smith, songs ; Miss Marshall recita tion : Mr Souness recitations. - Supper was served halfway through the evening, and again at conclusion. Shortly after 3 o'clock tired but hap'py dancers waltzed their last steps, then three cheers were again called for the guests, three for Mrs and Miss Souness, after which all joined hands and sang ''Auld Lang Syne " Lastly alt bade a personal farewell to Mr and Mrs Maider and family, one and all wishing them every happiness in their i new home, and expressing the hope that before long they would favour us with a visit. Mr Jones supplied the music for . the dancers, while Mr G. Johnstoncjun. made an efficient M.C. —Correspondent.
