FOOTBALL.

Owing to an insufficient number of teams offering to compete in the seven-a-side tournament which was to have been held at Balclutha next Saturday, the event has been abandoned. CLINTON JUNIORS v. TAPANUI JUNIORS.

I his match was played on Clinton recreation ground on Saturday, and after a will-contested game resulted in a win for Tapanui by 4 points. The scores were—Clinton II points (2 tries and a goal from a try) ; Tapanui 15 points (4 tries and a potted goal.) The whistle was in the hands of Mr A. Charlton, who controlled the game to the satisfaction of both teams.

WAUoNII v. KAITANCATA An Association team from Waronui and Milton visited Kaitangata on Saturday and met the Kaitangata seniors in a friendly game. After a willing go the game resulted in a draw—four goals each. "Waronui had the assistance of three first-class local men, in addition to Johnston, the Kaitangata crack forward, who resides in Milton, and Aspinall, the cx-Otago rep. A very fair team was opposing the local boys, who had not their full strength. The game, however, was fought out from start to finish and proved good practice for Kaitangata," .who do battle with Morningtoii in the Una] for the cup. A picked team of Duriedin Scouts met the Kaitangata Scouts at Kaitangata on Saturday in an Association match, and although the visitors were considerably the heavier team, the Kaitangata boys managed to draw with them, each side scoring 2 goals. In the evening the visitors were entertained by the local corps at Mrs Pascoe's, Scout.commander Carson presiding. .In addition to boys present, there were Commander Jones and Scoutmaster Mickllcmass, and Mr A. Weston (secretary of the Association Club), who all gave addresses to the lads, pointing out that football wan not alone essential for the battle of life. A number of songs and recitations were given.
