WELCOME TO WANGALOA.

A very enjoyable evening was spent on Wednesday night at Hope Farm, Wangaloa, iii the shape of a surprise party given by a number of the residents as a.welcome to Mr Him. About S o'clock they assembled at the house with baskets laden with good .things provided by the ladies of the district. When Mr Sim saw what was up, he threw his house open and gave a hearty welcome to all. A large number came over from Kaitangata. Dancing was kept up with great gusto till - in the morning. At midnight tea and cakes were handed round, kindly supplied by Mrs H. Haggart, Mrs J. Johnston, and Miss M. Smith, and greatly appreciated. Songs were contributed by Mr Marshall. Master L. Haggart, Mr Terry, Mr P. Smith. Mr I). Lawrence, Mr Sim, and Mr Walker. A recitation was given by Mr It. Brown. Miss Dale provided fruit towards the entertainment. The music was provided by Mr 1). Haggart and Miss M. iSnrith, and Mr Marshall acted as M.C., and each and all carried out their duties with satisfaction to all. After the usual votes of thanks, the company joined hands and sang Auld Lang Syne with ' "micht and main," and everyone voted that it was the best night's enjoyment thin- had had for a very long time, and when each took his leave the hope was expressed that they would soon all meet again under similarly pleasant circumstances..
