GUN CLUB.

TWe was an attendance of, a score otjo shoetists in the Harvey Hall 011 Wednesday for the purpose of considering the advisability of forming a Gun Club -in. Balclutha." Mr W. A. Mattkewfe was voted to the c&air, and exgained the purpose of the meeting. Be thought, they should have a capital elub. He had often thought they Mould start a club in Balclutha, and he was sure there was a large number of persons who would be willing to support it. (tat the motion of-Mr Jas. McDonald, Becorided by Mr Wm. Clark, it was decided that a club be formed, to be called the Balclutha Gun Club. Office-bearers. The following office-bearers were elected! for the year President, Mr G. W. Hutchins; vice-presidents, Messrs Jno. Low, A. Er . Bragg, Campbell Thomson, Jno. Begg; captain, Mr J. P. Anderson; pommittee, Messrs Wm. Clark, E. Mason, M. Low, Jno. Campbell, Jas. M'Donald, Geo. Sinclair; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. Tomliscaii General. Mr Jas. M'Donald moved that the aubseription be 5/- a member.—Seconded by Mr C. J. Wood and carried. Hie aomndteee are to try and get the ground at the other end' of the old football field. The- procuring of birds, traps and ammunition is to be left to the committee. Traps cost about £2 5/- and clay birds 30/- a barrel. The- committee are also to arrange for an opening day, which will probably be within a fortnight. t Some forty gentlemen were mentioned as intending members, includ- . iag those present, and the Club is likely to flourish strongly from the start. Rules. The Club is to have • the. same rules as the Dunedin Gun Club. The fol- ' lowing are some' of that Club's rules : Not. less than five traps shall be used in any Association competition. Each trap must throw a bird a distance ,of not less than 40yds nor more than 60yds. No gun of a larger guage than 12 shall be used. . The charge shall not exceed. 3Jdrs. black powder, or its equivalent in any other description of gun-powder, and ljozs. of shot. No ■Hot larger than No. 4 shall be used. If a shooter, in firing at a bird, clisehargts both barrels practically at once, and kills his bird, that bird shall be scorqjd a "No bird," and if he misses, the bird shall be scoredi a miss. All inanimate bird matches, unless specified as cash sweepstakes, to be for trophies. H the shooter's gun, being properly loaded and cocked, fails to fire from any causte whatever excepting through the fault of the shooter, the bird shall. be counted "no bird."
